Reminiscing over a Spring wedding, North Cadbury Court – Natasha & Marc 2022

Doesn’t time fly! I can scarcely believe it’s been a whole year since the JM design team created the wedding flowers for Natasha Baker OBE and Marc Jaconelli in the beautiful surroundings of the church and court in the village of North Cadbury. Getting to the wedding day was quite a ride, navigating our way through the pandemic and gold medallist Natasha’s Paralympic schedule preparing for Tokyo 2020.

I love the process of wedding planning. I view every enquiry as the start of a unique, special, and exciting journey. Natasha initially first got in touch during the first lockdown in 2020, so we didn’t meet face to face until much later that year. Straight away I knew I wanted to work with Natasha and Marc; a fun, caring and exuberant couple with bags of great ideas about the wedding flowers they wanted my team to create for their day.

The wedding planning process saw us discussing colours, flowers, and themes. Eventually we settled on ‘elegance and fun’ as the central focus. Natasha knew she loved peonies, but getting married in the spring meant no availability. Not a problem! Other flowers with similar form would create the look she was after, along with Lily of the Valley, which has a historical link back through the generations in Natasha’s family.

When I think about the Somerset wedding venues I love to decorate, North Cadbury Court is certainly a favourite. Its high ceilings, gorgeous fireplaces and the beautiful sweeping staircase are some of the period features that delight me. It was so much fun to drape those stairs with flowers and foliage and an absolute treat to watch Natasha and her bridesmaids photographed so expertly by the lovely Jo Hansford as they swept down the staircase heading off to the church.

Natasha and Marc were keen to decorate North Cadbury church and the JM team were delighted to fill it with floral abundance and gorgeous fragrance. The designs complemented such a glorious setting. Living in North Cadbury means this is my local, a church I know very well. I think knowing a space well really helps when you design for it. I’m so lucky to know so many churches and Somerset wedding venues intimately after more than 20 years in the wedding industry.

Natasha and Marc chose expert event planner Lauren of Bluebird Creative who helped the whole day go so smoothly. After the intimate ceremony the bridal party and their guests enjoyed a treat. Natasha had a surprise up her sleeve for Marc with Undercover Artists UK getting the whole wedding party dancing during the wedding breakfast. The ballroom at North Cadbury Court is such a perfect setting for this, it’s so light, airy, and spacious. The JM team filled the ballroom with sumptuous blooms to complete the table styling.

Honestly, from initial email enquiry to the wedding day and way beyond, Natasha and Marc have been a dream to work with. It’s one of the reasons I love my job- building lasting relationships and turning other people’s floral dreams into their reality. Happy 1st Anniversary you two! I hope this is the first of many.
